Therapy Dog International is a nationally recognized certifying body which evaluates dogs and their handlers for volunteer therapy work. TDI is strictly volunteer. The test includes some obedience. It also involves the evaluator touching the dog and making sure the temperment is gentle enough to work under stressful situations. They emulate medical situations to ensure the dog will not react under fear or stress. These are not Service Dogs.
People have asked "so what do these dogs do?" The answer "they interrupt time" and provide unconditional time with you in perfect silence. Their tactile presence often can bring a smile to a patient's face as remember the dog they had in their childhood. They make everyone smile and feel good. They exist for the total benefit of that particular patient at that particular moment. For more information on Therapy Dogs of Cincinnati please visit their website at www.tdi-dog.org.
